BIX New Jersey Overview
The New Jersey seminar provided an opportunity to learn from the experts about powerful new analytic tools and techniques. Acclaimed author and BI specialist Michael Haisten and OLAP guru Norman Comstock, gave a three-part presentation focusing on:
- Advanced Analytics supported by Microsoft Analysis Services;
- the BI Lifecycle as a methodology for harnessing these tools;
- and What's Next in Data Warehousing: how the warehouse can be modified to better facilitate these enterprise-caliber analytics.
James Basilico of Microsoft who offered in-depth insights into the broad functionality of the Analysis Services environment. This session covered the features of Analysis Services, formerly known as OLAP Services, and their relationships to real world business scenarios. This session showed how Analysis Services provides a flexible end-user tool that offers excellent query performance, powerful analytics and calculations without sacrificing data consistency or the ability to handle large data volumes. In the process, it demonstrated many of the new dimension features, such as parent-child dimensions, custom rollups and formulas in a dimension, changing dimensions, and parent-child dimensions. It also demonstrated the security enhancements, advanced analytics features, and scalability enhancements.
